The LIFE

WIP: Film In His Eyes

He was born on a First Thursday Poetry Slam at Pipeline and then the next night I took him over to the Loft in Chinatown where 82fifty was preforming.

The original photo was taken in Malawi where Eric Rulona, president of the New Day Kids charity, was on his two month stay helping the E&K Orphanage School. It was one out many photos that captivated me about his stay especially at the time of his return he had both exchanged stories about our international travels and found out we are totally obsessed with taking pictures.

At about the same time I was putting him together, I had met up with a friend who had just came back from an orphanage in the Philippines and had told me about all these pictures she had taken with a film camera but was left with only her iphone pics because she left the film camera with the film for the kids to play with since there was no place near to develop the film.

I could get really deep into it: what this means, the painting, the actual person, the film, his eyes, the two third world countries, the three of us snapping away with digital memory cards. But really, film as sunglasses=dope.

Thanks to my affair with charcoal the past six months, painting faces with oil paints suddenly seen so much easier. Although live art is a dope way to really get stuff done (sometimes) I am finding the late nights alone with itunes and spot light helps me see the bend of things better.

When the piece is officially done,  100% of whatever it makes goes to the New Day Kids charity.

Thanks for reading my first post.
